Wrap Up and walk

  • Wrap and walk

Winter is a very difficult time for older people and it can be difficult to see the challenges when you are younger. Our wrap up and walk campaign aims to help educate younger people about the needs of older people, many of whom struggle with loneliness and are more isolated as the colder weather means that they are unable to get out more, whilst having fun and getting out and about.

Join us on the 9th February ( or indeed any day in February) and take part in our wrap and and walk initiative. Challenge your pupils to get wrapped up in warm clothing and get walking whilst raising funds for our local work with older people in Blackburn with Darwen. You can choose the distance or use your daily mile. Why not link it to the geography curriculum and get pupils to plot their own route around the local area, taking in local landmarks and buildings. Maybe look at the facilities that are available locally for older people whilst you are out and about and find out more about them too.

We can provide posters, talks in assembly and all the resources you might need to get involved, to take part please email Elaine on elaine.jennings@ageukbwd.org.uk or use the contact us page link below

  • Student volunteering

Volunteering looks great on a CV or a Uni personal statement but it is much more than that - volunteering improves social skills, shows an employer that you are reliable and responsible, gives you employment skills and more importantly can be fun.

Volunteering can help you stand out to employers and Universities when students have similar qualifications and shows commitment.

We offer volunteering opportunities to students aged 16 or over in many of our services - we can also offer work experience and placement opportunities, have a look at our website for more information and get in touch
