Befriender

Role Description

As a befriender, you could provide company for a lonely older person in Bolton. We are looking for friendly, honest, reliable and caring people who can make a long-term commitment to visiting an older person.

Specific responsibilities 
  • Make weekly visits to an older person who is socially isolated and/or housebound
  • Visiting a person in their own home for a cup of tea and a chat or accompanying an older person out into the community to aid social integration
Skills and Qualifications
  • Friendly and reliable
  • A good listener
  • Ability to build a good rapport with an older person
  • An open-minded approach to individuals, avoiding judgement and stereotyping.
  • Skills and willingness to support a client face-to-face
  • Willingness to attend training and other events.
  • Willingness to undergo a DBS check
Time Requirements

We would be looking for people to commit to volunteering long-term if matched with a client. Times and days are flexible.
