Role Description

Lead walks in the local area of around 30 minutes to an hour to encourage older people to become more active and confident, helping them to remain independent through walking. 

Specific responsibilities 

  • Promote walking to the community to help older people become more active
  • Encourage people to walk to help kickstart the reconditioning of their health and independence after shielding.
  • Plan and risk assess walks in local areas offering short medium and long walks within your community.
  • Gather physical activity readiness questionnaires for new participants.
  • Record a register of attendance
  • Work as part of a team with other Age UK Bolton staff and volunteers.

Skills and Qualifications

  • A walk leader qualification is desired but not essential.
  • In-house support/training will be offered.
  • An open-minded approach to individuals, avoiding judgment and stereotyping.
  • A liking for and interest in working with older people
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Willingness to attend training and other events and to be able to commit to regular volunteering hours.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check (criminal records check)

Time Requirements

One to two hours a week. Flexible to suit your availability.

We will work with you to organise the walks in a location suitable to both you and our clients.
