Coffee, Cake and Company

We've learnt that staying socially connected is just as important as staying physically well. Our goal is to establish a self-sustaining programme which will help tackle loneliness and isolation by increasing community connection, friendship and activity. By hosting these regular events, we hope to build a strong network of support for older adults in Buckinghamshire. That’s the heart behind Coffee, Cake & Company.
These coffee mornings that are held across Buckinghamshire offer:
- Light entertainment and activities
- Free tea, coffee, cakes, biscuits and light snacks
- An opportunity to learn about other support and services in Buckinghamshire.
- A space to give older residents the chance to chat, laugh, and build friendships in a safe and supportive environment.

How It Supports the Age Friendly Buckinghamshire Project
Coffee, Cake & Company is a key part of our wider Age Friendly Buckinghamshire work, which is all about helping older adults age well.
We know from our engagement work with Buckinghamshire residents that social connection is really important for wellbeing at any age.
These events directly contribute to our Age Friendly aims by:
- Encouraging social participation – reducing isolation and increasing engagement in local life
- Promoting mental and emotional wellbeing – helping older adults feel valued, included, and part of the community
- Creating age-positive spaces – showing that local venues can be welcoming, accessible and inclusive for people of all ages
- Strengthening community partnerships – bringing together local organisations and services to support older residents
The Impact on Local Residents
- Increasing social participation
Many older adults tell us they can go days without speaking to anyone. Coffee, Cake & Company offers a regular opportunity to be part of something social, helping to lift feelings of loneliness and build confidence in social settings. - Boosting emotional wellbeing
A warm smile, shared stories, and a sense of belonging can make a world of difference. Attendees often leave our events feeling lighter, happier, and more connected. - Strengthening community ties
Local partners like care homes, community groups and volunteers join us at these events, helping residents build wider support networks. It’s a real celebration of community spirit. - Adding joy and entertainment
From live singing and craft activities to games and quizzes, our sessions are full of light-hearted fun that lifts spirits and creates lasting memories. - Access to information
Coffee, Cake & Company provides a gateway to helpful advice, practical support and opportunities to try new activties and services. For example, we've hosted PCSOs, Energy Doctor, seated exercise classes and other local organisations.
How you can get involved
Volunteer with us
We’re always looking for friendly, kind-hearted volunteers to help us host our events. There are many opportunties to get involved, such as welcoming guests with a smile to serving tea and cake or setting up the room - every pair of hands makes a difference. An important part of being a volunteer at our Coffee, Cake and Company events is making everyone feel included, ensuring that no one is left alone and facilitating conversation.
If you’d like to take things further, you could even step into a more leadership role, helping to co-ordinate and plan the coffee mornings yourself. We’ll provide you with training, guidance and ongoing support so you can confidently run sessions and make a real difference in your community.
Volunteering is a lovely way to give back, meet new people, and brighten someone’s day.
