Age UK Camden is the first Dementia Friendly Organisation in Camden!

Published on 14 May 2025 10:58 AM

We're proud to announce that Age UK Camden and DEEP Group Great Camden Minds have achieved NCL Dementia Friendly Status....the first in Camden!

The NCL Dementia Friendly scheme is a partnership between Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington Local Authorities and North Central London Integrated Care Board.

At the beginning of 2025, Age UK Camden’s Dementia Services as well as all day care staff at Great Croft and Henderson Court Day centres, attended Dementia Training. This was provided by REAL Communication, which focuses on helping support the relationships between people living with dementia and their carers by improving communication between them.

As part of this award, we have committed to specific actions to be a dementia friendly organisation:

  • Continue to provide dementia awareness training to all dementia befriending and wellbeing volunteers in Age UK Camden’s Dementia Services.
  • Continue to support and facilitate the DEEP group Great Camden Minds group to consult with organisations in Camden to ensure that Camden becomes a dementia friendly borough, highlights the stigma attached to living with dementia, and ensure that the voices of people living with dementia are heard in consultations and in research.
  • Complete a Dementia Friendly Environment Checklist to make improvements in Age UK Camden’s offices/premises to try to make them more dementia friendly.

We'd like to say a big thank you to Camden Carers for putting us forward for the award and to Camden Council and their Public Health team for their ongoing support. Thank you also to NCL for creating and providing this award to encourage more organisations to become dementia friendly.
