Our volunteer Home Visit Befriender role involves visiting an isolated, older person in their own home, to provide friendship and companionship. This role requires a weekly commitment to build companionship and improve the confidence of our clients.
What will your role involve?
- Regular weekly visit to the service user in their own home, offering companionship and conversation, helping develop new relationships and encourage participation in social activities where possible.
- Completing weekly visit record sheets.
- Taking part in recreational activities such as board games, puzzles or crafts, or simply sharing memories.
- Working on your own initiative with support and training from Age UK Doncaster.
Is the Befriender Volunteering role right for you?
We are looking for someone aged 18+, who is willing to arrange regular visits to our service users that will last for an hour a week. You need to be aware of the boundaries an limitations of the Befriending role and not become involved in tasks such as cleaning and shopping for our service users. Be aware that any concerns about the well-being of the service users should be reported and you must complete a record of visits that should be returned to the Volunteer Manager. Age UK Doncaster will support and guide you through induction and a Disclosure and Barring Service check must be complete.
