Captain Tom 100 Challenge

Published on 23 April 2021 01:46 PM

On the weekend of Captain Tom's 101st birthday, we're asking you to celebrate his life by taking on a challenge and raising funds for Age UK Ealing.

Friday 30 April marks what would have been Captain Tom's 101st birthday but also the one-year anniversary of his heroic fundraising efforts for NHS charities in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. His famous 100 laps of his garden turned him into a national hero and raised over £38.9 million for the NHS.

From Friday 30 April Monday 3 May, everyone, of all ages and abilities, can take on a challenge containing the number 100.

That could be 100 kicks-ups, 100 lengths of the pool or 100 laps of the garden (like Captain Tom!). If sport isn't your thing, why not bake 100 cakes or write 100 letters?

It's really easy to get involved. All you have to do is;

1. Get your thinking cap on and decide what your challenge will be

2. Fundraise and donate to Age UK Ealing via our JustGiving page

3. Snap a picture of your challenge and tag us on social media using #CaptainTom100

The past year has been particularly hard for older people experiencing isolation and loneliness but Age UK Ealing have been there to help them through these difficult times. Our telephone befriending service offers older people in our community companionship and support, whilst our Information and Advice team have been assisting those in the community throughout the pandemic.

Captain Tom is a great reminder that age need not be a barrier to achieving great things. His story is inspirational to people of all ages and we hope that you can get together to take on this challenge in his memory.

All the money we raise through the challenge will go towards supporting older people in Ealing.

Good luck!
