RESPONSIBLE TO              Centre Manager


The object of Age UK East Grinstead & District is to support older people and carers in East Grinstead and the surrounding areas.  Based at the Swan Mead Activity Centre in Queens Road, East Grinstead, we provide a ‘home from home’ environment where we offer a variety of activities and services for older people with a wide range of needs and abilities.  In addition we run outings and holidays, as well as a range of other projects.

Main Duties

To provide a friendly atmosphere for older people to meet together, enjoy lunch, activities and each other’s company.

Specific Responsibilities

Assist the Activities Manager and/or Activities Assistant in preparing the Centre for the day.

Provide assistance with tasks including setting tables, serving/clearing meals, light washing up/drying up, etc.

Run and/or participate in activities to support users both at Swan Mead and sometimes elsewhere in East Grinstead.

Collect payments from users and operate till (optional).

Provide a friendly face and helping hand to users.

Verbally report any problems or concerns to the Activities Manager.

Participate in gatherings for the support and benefit of volunteers.

Health and Safety

Abide by all AUKEG&D Health and Safety procedures.
Wear appropriate protective clothing at all times.

Adhere to AUKEG&D policies including Confidentiality Policy and Volunteer Agreement.


Attend training as required, eg. Induction, Fire Safety, Till.


Any other tasks as requested by the Activities Manager


Hours vary depending on the days involved, needs of users and volunteer availability, but are normally between 10.30am and 3pm
