London Councils Review Puts Freedom Pass at Risk; Age UK London Launches Campaign to Protect It

A review by London Councils into the cost of the Freedom Pass has raised concerns that the popular travel benefit could be scaled back or even cut. The Freedom Pass, which provides free travel for eligible Londoners, faces uncertainty as the review progresses.

Recently, Labour councils in London announced they would block the review, reducing the immediate threat to the Freedom Pass. However, the risk has not been completely eliminated, and advocates emphasize the importance of continued public support to safeguard the benefit.

Age UK London has launched an open letter addressed to London Councils, urging Londoners to co-sign in support of the Freedom Pass. The campaign highlights the need for a strong collective voice to oppose any attempts to weaken this vital service.

Those wishing to support the campaign can sign the open letter online. The letter will remain open for signatures until 28th February 2026.

The Freedom Pass has long been a crucial resource for many Londoners, enabling affordable and accessible travel across the city. As the review unfolds, community engagement will be essential to ensure its future.
