If you’re finding it harder to manage day-to-day tasks at home, our Help at Home service in Hillingdon and Harrow is here for you. We provide practical support for people 50+ who need a hand around the house, helping you stay independent, safe and comfortable in your own home.

Whether you need help with housework, a prescription collection service, or simply someone to spend time with, our help at home services offer reliable, flexible home help and companionship when you need it most.

What is Help at Home?

Help at Home is one of our trusted home help services, providing nonclinical domestic support and companionship for older adults 50+. Our trained Home Helpers visit you at home, take time to understand your situation, and carry out a home support assessment to agree a plan that works for you.

You can choose how often you receive help at home — weekly, fortnightly, or just occasionally — giving you flexible home support that fits around your life.

How we can help

Our help at home services are tailored to your needs and can include:

• Help with housework, including cleaning, tidying and decluttering
• Laundry and changing bedding
• Prescription collection service, including help collecting prescriptions and prescription pick up and delivery
• Shopping (with you or on your behalf)
• Help with paperwork and forms
• Preparing light meals
• Escorting you to appointments
• Social contact and companionship
• Dementia sitting (non clinical)

Please note: we do not provide personal care.

Pricing and availability

• £28 per hour (minimum of 1.5 hours per week)
(Price will increase to £30 per hour from 1 April 2026)
• £28 one off fee for an initial home support assessment
(Increasing to £30 from 1 April 2026)
• Payment via Direct Debit to help keep costs low
• Available to adults 50+ living in Hillingdon and Harrow

What does Help at Home include?
Help at Home provides practical, non clinical home help services to support older people with everyday tasks and maintain independence. At Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow & Brent, our help at home services focus on domestic support and companionship for older adults, tailored to individual needs.

Support can include help with housework, shopping, light meal preparation, paperwork, getting out and about, and help collecting prescriptions. Our friendly Home Helpers provide reliable home support that makes daily life easier and safer — without taking away independence.

How to find help at home
Finding help at home is straightforward and doesn’t require a referral. You can contact Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow & Brent directly to arrange an initial home support assessment.

We’ll take time to understand your needs, agree a flexible support plan, and match you with a Home Helper. Visits are available Monday to Friday, 9am–4pm, and can be arranged weekly, fortnightly or as needed.

Which household chores can a home helper do?
A Home Helper can help with a wide range of everyday tasks, including:
• Help with housework such as cleaning, tidying and decluttering
• Laundry and changing bedding
• Shopping (with you or on your behalf)
• Prescription collection service, including prescription pick up and delivery
• Preparing light meals
• Help with paperwork
• Escorting you to appointments
• Social contact and companionship

With Age UK HHB, visits can be arranged weekly, fortnightly, or occasionally, depending on what works best for the older person and their family.
