What is social prescribing?
Not everything that affects our health can be treated with medicine. Social prescribing connects you with local activities, services and support that can help you feel better in day-to-day life.
We work with GP surgeries in Harrow to offer social prescribing to adults over 18 who may be feeling lonely, isolated or overwhelmed by life’s pressures. This free service is tailored to you - designed to help you build resilience, improve wellbeing, and feel more in control of your health.
Who is it for?
Social prescribing is ideal for people who:
● Are living with long-term physical or mental health conditions
● Feel isolated or lonely
● Are experiencing low mood, stress or anxiety
● Are struggling with housing, debt, benefits or other non-medical issues
● Want to get more involved in their community
You must be aged 18+ and live in Harrow. A referral from your GP is required to access this service.
How it works
Once your GP refers you, a trained link worker will get in touch to understand your needs. Together, you’ll explore options that could support your health and wellbeing.
This might include:
● Joining local groups, clubs or community activities
● Getting help with housing or financial concerns
● Finding volunteer opportunities
● Accessing emotional support or counselling
● Discovering new hobbies or ways to connect socially
● Signposting to services that offer practical day-to-day help
Social prescribing is about helping you find the right support - and making sure you feel empowered to use it.
