In order to ensure that your wishes are carried out and your property and possessions are bequeathed as you would have wanted, it is important that you have a Will in place. Setting up power of attorney can help your wishes to be respected while you are living if you become unable to make decisions for yourself.

We work with a local will writer and local solicitors who will discuss your requirements and writes your Will, making sure that your wishes are clearly stated. Your friends and family are your priority. However, after making provisions for them, would you consider supporting Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent in your will? He can also help you set up Power of Attorney, enabling you to identify who you wish to manage decisions about your care and/or finances in the event that you are no longer make these decisions yourself.

It is important to remember that you can make changes to your Will at any time and this can often be done by means of a simple codicil. However it is easier to do this if the Will is professionally drawn up.

The Will Writing and Power of Attorney Service is not free, however costs are normally lower than other services.

Who can use the service?

The service is available to Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent residents aged 60 or over.

Confidentiality and liability

The service is confidential and you will remain a client of an authorized will writer and as such is unable to give advice. Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent will not be held liable for any misrepresentation or omissions of any of the services provided.

Lasting Power of Attorney refunds.

The Office of the Public Guardian for England and Wales – the public body that records lasting powers of attorney - is only supposed to charge fees so as to recover its operational costs.Yet up until April 2017 it charged a £110 fee to register an LPA and due to a surge in registrations coupled with increasing efficiencies it is estimated to have collected in an £89 million surplus. As a result, those who applied to register their LPAs since 2013 paid too much and are entitled to a partial refund. The OPG reduced the fees for applying to register LPAs (and enduring power of attorneys) from £110 to £82 in April 2017.And it aims to increase the number of people making LPAs next year so it is a possibility the fee could come down further.Details on how to claim a refund are available here:
