We are looking for committed enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals, who can share their time, experience and skills to make a difference to the lives of local older people as set out in our vision and values.

The Board and Chief Executive have identified some additional skills that would particularly complement our current team which include marketing and communications, PR and digital media skills, campaigning and fundraising, as well as financial or management accounting and oversight.

Previous board experience is not essential but enthusiasm to support the organisation deliver on our vision mission and values are essential.

Who we are

Age UK Hull & East Yorkshire is an independent local charity and part of a network of 118 federated Age UK charities. We've been working in the local community to help older people for over 70 years. We have many dedicated staff and volunteers helping us to deliver services and activities for older people in Hull and East Yorkshire.

Your role as a Trustee is to work as part of a team providing leadership, strategic direction and collective responsibility for robust governance, ensuring the charity is run effectively and efficiently and delivers benefit and value. All Trustees are volunteers and the positions are unremunerated.

The time commitment required is typically around 4 hours per month including:

  • attendance at our board meetings which are held four times a year, with time in between to respond to emails and read board papers and generally prepare for the meeting.
  • Undertaking some required training (generally done online in own time)
  • Engaging with Age UK Hull and East Yorkshire’s various activities and events
  • Supporting the leadership team with the above specialist skills

This is an exciting and challenging time as we continue to plan to ensure financial diversity and stability and a high standard of performance for the organisation. As a Trustee you will be part of shaping and guiding this development and help to make a difference to local people and the communities.

Why volunteer?

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and support the work we do in the community. Our volunteers are a key resource to Age UK Hull & East Yorkshire; without them we could not provide the services we do.

Who can volunteer?

Almost anyone can be a volunteer. We have a wide range of roles which suit different people and different skills. We need people to help with all aspects of the organisation, and that means there is something for everyone. If you want to become a volunteer we are willing to accept you regardless of age, gender, race, ability or health - everyone is welcome!

How much time do I need to give?

It depends on the volunteer role you are interested in. Some people give an hour a week, other people do more.

What else you can do to support us

  • Take part in a fundraiser

Could you help us to raise vital funds by taking part in a fundraising event? We have regular events such as sponsored walks, but you could also do your own fundraiser like a cake sale.

  • Get your colleagues involved

Could you talk to your colleagues or your employer about how you can support us? We have lots of ideas for how organisations can get involved, including sponsoring an event, making us Charity of the Year, or donating equipment.
