Staying Safe in Hot Weather

Published on 24 June 2026 11:39 AM

With temperatures remaining high across Lincolnshire, we would like to remind everyone to take extra care during this period of hot weather, particularly older people and those with underlying health conditions.

Hot weather can affect us all, but some people are more vulnerable to the effects of heat. We encourage everyone to check in on friends, neighbours and relatives who may need a little extra support.

Top tips for staying safe in the heat

  • Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic fluids throughout the day.
  • Keep your home as cool as possible by closing curtains or blinds in sunny rooms.
  • Avoid going outside during the hottest part of the day, usually between 11am and 3pm, where possible.
  • Wear light, loose-fitting clothing and use sun protection when outdoors.
  • Take things slowly and avoid strenuous activities during periods of extreme heat.
  • If you are caring for someone or know someone who may be vulnerable, make regular contact to ensure they are safe and well.

We also encourage anyone attending community activities or services to let us know if they are unable to attend, so we can make sure they are okay.

Age UK's Heatwave Advice

Age UK has produced a helpful Staying Cool in a Heatwave guide, offering practical advice on keeping cool, staying hydrated and recognising the signs of heat-related illness. We recommend reading and sharing this information with family, friends and neighbours who may benefit from it.

Our services continue to operate during the warm weather, although some activities may be adapted or rescheduled to ensure the comfort and wellbeing of everyone involved. Our shops may be operating with limited opening hours, please check with your local shop's page before visiting to confirm opening times. This is to ensure the wellbeing and safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors.

Thank you for helping us look out for one another and keep our communities safe during the hot weather.
