Free Furniture Collection from Housing Schemes in Manchester

We want to let you know about a free collections service offered by Age UK Manchester that we believe could be of real benefit to housing schemes and the residents that live in them.
If you're a Scheme Manager, or a relative of a family member who lives in one, you may be aware of the logisitcal challenges that are involved when moving someone's possesions or into a scheme.
Indeed, through our work with older people in Manchester, we have noticed that people moving into assisted living or housing association schemes are often faced with the challenge of downsizing – bringing with them more belongings than they can realistically keep. Additionally, when a resident sadly passes away, families and scheme managers are often left with the difficult task of clearing out a home full of furniture and personal items.
We offer a free donation collection service across the city. We can collect a wide range of pre-loved items, including:
- Furniture – sofas, beds, wardrobes, tables, chairs, cabinets, etc.
- Household appliances – such as fridges and other electrical items
- Clothing and accessories
- Homeware and décor
- Books, media, board games and more
All donated items are either resold in our charity shops or responsibly recycled, and we can usually manage to complete collections within a week of being contacted. The funds raised go directly towards supporting vital services for older people in Manchester.
We’d be grateful if you could share this information with your residents and their families. If you or your team ever come across a situation where items need to be cleared, please keep us in mind. We’d be happy to help.
