Covid Resilience

The year 2020 has been an especially difficult year for people across the UK. However, the unprecedented level of change that we have become accustomed to has brought about an unrivalled sense of national unity. Sacrificing our normal way of living to help fight the virus has proven yet again, the resilience of the British people.

It is especially important to give credit to the many vulnerable people within our society that have remained strong and vigilant in a situation that is arguably of most concern to them. Sheltering ourselves from family and friends is an uncustomary circumstance and has been exceptionally challenging for many. However, we have also seen stories of people and situations that tells us that this situation is not all doom and gloom.

In early 2020, Age UK Stockport implemented a digital strategy campaign to help members of our clients to explore their digital learning and to help them maintain and build upon their social connections. This involved everyone being given a modern device along with instructions and follow up support to get through the preliminary stages of shielding. The determination we saw in people who were adamant in joining a digitised world was incredible and this determination has led many into continuing with their devices and staying connected. Ultimately, this has meant that people have rejoiced in their digital confidence and have proved that their own personal resilience is the motivation to progress through unexpected hardship.
