This is an exciting time to lead Age UK Stockport’s Board. Our current Chair is standing down later this year having served the maximum term for the role. We are looking for a dedicated, creative person, with a range of appropriate professional and life experiences to become our next Chair.

The time commitment is about 20 hours a month.

Board of Trustees

The overall responsibility for the governance, finances and direction of Age UK Stockport lies with the Board of Trustees. Along with this responsibility, goes the pleasure and satisfaction of direct involvement in a large local charity.

Composition of the Board

The Board is made up of up to six elected members plus a Chairperson.

Membership of the Board

Membership of the Board is a non-paid position. Board members have an understanding of and empathy with the aims and objectives of Age UK Stockport. They have skills and experience which they bring to the organisation, plus a knowledge of the local communities of Stockport.

Responsibilities of the Board

Age UK Stockport is a registered Charity, and the Board form the body of Charity Trustees as defined by the Charities Act 1993. The Board therefore has overall legal responsibility for the organisation. Age UK Stockport is also a company limited by guarantee and is governed by company law as well.
