February is LGBT+ History Month, and there are a number of events taking place in Stockport to celebrate the community’s past, present and future.

A few local organisations have come together to collaborate on a programme of events. They include Stockport Pride, Stockport LGBT+ Plus, Stockport Forward LGBT+ and Stockport Libraries. Throughout February the month includes discussions, quizzes, crafts and opportunities to socialise. Speakers during the month include LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity Albert Kennedy Trust, HIV charity George House Trust and Rainbow Historian Author Gill Rossini.

OUTing the Past will be returning to Stockport Central Library – sharing stories of LGBTQ+ hidden histories. The Chairperson of Stockport Pride’s organising committee, Stephen Bowyer, said that “the LGBTQ+ community has a rich and interesting history, that many people may not be aware of, and we’re using the month to educate and celebrate.”

Everything taking place throughout February is free to attend and open to everyone. For more details about what’s going on visit www.stockportplus.org/history
