Mr and Mrs W were referred onto Age UK’s welfare advisor who managed to secure them lower rate attendance allowance for Mr W, higher rate attendance allowance for Mrs W, a premium on their pension credit, severe disability allowance and a council tax reduction. Mr and Mrs W were backdated £2350 and now receive an extra £1000 a month of income.

This money has had a significant impact on Mr and Mrs W’s health as they have been able to pay to replace the window in their living room, they can now afford to heat the house and eat well.

Age UK have been supporting Mr and Mrs W for a number of months now, providing continuing support in regards to what their new benefits can be used for, and have noticed a significant improvement in the health of Mr W in particular. He now states he is able to sleep better, feed him and his wife, and feel warm and safe in his own home. His whole demeanour has changed since working with Age UK Teesside.
