Phil has the honour of being our oldest volunteer at 90 years of age!
Purpose:

To provide companionship and support to older people in Torbay.

Location: 

Paignton, Torquay or Brixham 

Hours:

1 Hour plus per week (Monday - Friday) 

Training and support:

Induction programme and constant support during your time with Age UK Torbay. 

The service:

The Befriending service offers a lifeline to many lonely and isolated older people living in Torbay. Volunteers visit one or more clients in their own homes on a regular basis. The service aims to promote independence and re-build confidence, and can be particularly helpful for example following discharge from hospital, bereavement, or a long-term illness. 

Person & job requirements:
  • Time for/understanding of older people
  • Trustworthy and reliable
  • Visiting for a coffee, chat, etc at the client's own residence
  • Offering friendship and reassurance
  • Sharing common interests and hobbies
