National Lottery and Government awards funding to Age UK Wandsworth for vital work to support older people during COVID-19

We are delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund and Government has awarding us funding towards our projects supporting the older community during the pandemic.

We have three new services designed to meet the needs of our older community at this time:

1. A COVID shopping service which allows people to place a shop with an online supermarket over the telephone and also supports those people in doing their own on-line shops.

2. 'Active Chats' which provides telephone befriending in addition to seated exercise and mindfulness

3. LGBTQ+ Chats which matches older LGBTQ+ people with a volunteer from the community for telephone befriending, seated exercise and (when restrictions allow) group activities

Emma Chisholm, Community and Wellbeing Lead at Age UK Wandsworth, said

"The Coronavirus pandemic has been difficult for everyone but especially so for our older residents who are most at risk. At Age UK Wandsworth we have rapidly changed our services to meet the needs of the community we serve and we will continue to support our older residents for the duration of the pandemic and beyond. We are delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund and the Government have awarded us this funding to help us continue this vital work"
