Age UK Bolton welcomed Kirith Enwistle, MP for Bolton North East, to its offices at The Square on Friday.
Kirith joined CEO Lauren McKechnie and Head of Health and Enterprises Vicky Hitchen, as well as volunteers David Morley and Annette, to speak about the needs of Bolton's current and future generation of older people.
"We were delighted to have Kirith join us in championing the voices of Bolton's older people", said Lauren.
"In just an hour, we shared stories, swapped insights, laughed, and acknowledged the humanity that binds us together - especially when life gets hard."
One heart-warming example shared by the group was the story of the art group set up by long-time Age UK Bolton volunteer David Morley. David explained to Krith that the group is a lifeline for many of its members, some of whom catch two buses every week to get to the class at The Ageing Well Centre.
"I've seen people come in shy and quiet, but six weeks later, they're laughing and chatting like old friends", said David.
The charity also presented Kirith with a copy of Bolton's Age Friendly Strategy, which lays out plans to ensure our borough is a place where everyone can age well - not just today’s older generation, but for generations to come.
The strategy, which was launched in June 2025 on Age UK Bolton's website, was created with direct input from Ageing Well Champions and Bolton's older people.
