Befriending volunteer
Volunteer role description
We are looking for friendly, honest, reliable and caring people to offer friendship and support to older people who are experiencing feelings of loneliness.
Specific responsibilities
- Make one visit per week to an older person who is socially isolated and/or housebound.
- Emotional support for an older person - checking in to see how they are doing.
- Having a regular, friendly and supportive chat with the older person about their interests.
We're looking for someone who is...
- Friendly and reliable
- A good listener
- Able to build a good rapport with an older person
- Open-minded, avoiding judgement and stereotyping
- Willing to attend training and other events
- Willing to undergo a DBS check
Time requirements
We would be looking for people to commit to volunteering long-term, if matched with a client. Times and days are flexible but would usually be between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.
