Volunteer role description

  • Thursday AM / PM

Overview

Form‑Filling Volunteers support clients who need help completing benefit application forms. Staff advisers will already have assessed what the client needs and booked an appointment; your role is to sit with the client—often for up to three hours—and guide them through the form, asking questions and recording their answers accurately.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supporting clients in person or by telephone to complete benefit forms
  • Asking questions from forms and writing down clients’ responses accurately and sensitively
  • Writing up completed cases on our CRM system (where possible)
  • Liaising closely with the Information & Advice Officer and other advisers
  • Seeking guidance and support when needed to ensure accurate and appropriate form completion

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong listening skills and the ability to identify client needs
  • Ability to understand written information and explain concepts clearly
  • Confident with record‑keeping and form completion
  • Non‑judgemental, empathetic approach
  • Comfortable working with clients face‑to‑face and over the phone
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Willingness to attend training and development opportunities
  • Willingness to complete an Enhanced DBS check
