Volunteer’s Week 2025: A Celebration of Dedication and Community

Volunteer’s Week is always a highlight in our calendar, and 2025 was no exception. Across the boroughs of Bromley and Greenwich, we came together to celebrate the incredible people who give their time, energy and care to support older people in our community. Here’s a look back at a wonderful week of gratitude, events and recognition.

Weeks Before: Preparing to Say Thank You
In the lead-up to the week, our team hand-wrote 174 volunteer certificates, thank you cards, and packaged up seed packets to send to every single one of our amazing volunteers. It was a small gesture, but one we hoped would show just how much their time and support means to us.

The feedback we received says it all:

“It was a lovely surprise to receive the card, certificate and radish seeds – thank you so very much. I look forward to hopefully reaping some amazing radish rewards! I enjoy my volunteering and send a big thank you to you and all the team for being so helpful and friendly.”

“What a lovely thoughtful thing to do, I really appreciate it.”

“Your show of appreciation is happily received – how lovely to receive the thank you card and certification in the post.”

Monday: Promoting Volunteering in Greenwich
We kicked off the week with a community presence in Woolwich from 2–3pm, thanks to the team at Greenwich Volunteer Centre. We were proud to join other local organisations to promote the importance and joy of volunteering.

Later that day, we had a stall in General Gordon Square from 10am to 4pm, officially opened by the Mayor of Greenwich. It was a great opportunity to meet new people, talk about the many ways to get involved in our work, and share the difference volunteers make every day.

Tuesday: Greener and Cleaner Volunteer Front Room
Tuesday took us to the Greener and Cleaner Hub, where we joined the Volunteer Front Room event hosted by Community Links Bromley. The space was full of energy and enthusiasm, with people exploring new ways to give back to their communities.

A big thank you to Community Links Bromley for organising such a busy and inspiring event, it was brilliant to see so many potential volunteers keen to get involved.

Friday: Volunteer Recognition Ceremony
The week wrapped up on a high with the Volunteer Centre Greenwich Recognition Awards at Mycenae House. Among those honoured was Morgan, who has volunteered with our Nepalese Gurkha Veterans Community Project since January 2022. Rain or shine, Morgan is there every Thursday, co-facilitating crafts and activities and supporting our Greenwich events and trips.

This year alone, she’s already contributed over 395 hours, an incredible achievement and a reflection of her warmth, commitment and generosity.

Two of our Greenwich Befrienders were also recognised for reaching the 100-hour milestone, a fantastic acknowledgment of their continued support and kindness.

Looking Ahead
Volunteer’s Week is a chance to celebrate, reflect and inspire. Whether you’re a current volunteer, a former one or someone thinking about taking that first step, know that your time truly makes a difference.

Thank you to every single one of our volunteers, we couldn’t do this without you.
