Age UK Cheshire's Day Services aims to relieve isolation by promoting independence and integration into social circles. They are ideal for older people who like to get out of the house now and then to join activities and make new friends.
We provide three types of day services, catering for all different needs:
Some of our traditional day services have been revamped and are now known as Older People Enjoying Life (OPEL) groups. These groups are generally quite large with up to 30 people meeting up each week. People who attend OPEL are offered a wide range of activities, usually including dominoes, indoor bowling, darts, board games, arts & crafts and poetry. We also invite regular guest speakers to the groups and provide various one-off events, day trips and group activities. These are very informal groups, where people have the freedom to join in with as little or as much as they choose. This group tends to appeal to those who are fairly independent. However, people who still use walking aids are still welcome to join us.
OPEL runs on the following days:
Northwich - Anderton Place, Kingsmead, Northwich CW9 8SQ. 10am - 3pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The session is run by a team of Age UK Cheshire staff and volunteers. Lunch is included for those who stay for the full day and is optional for those who choose the half day session. The 2 course lunch is provided by the in-house caterers and is eaten in a separate dining room.

Then a two course meal from the Hollymere restaurant. The afternoon activities last until 2.15pm when we break for tea/coffee and cake, then homeward transport arrives.

Traditional Day Centres
Our traditional day centre caters for anyone over 65 and is most suitable for those who may have mobility issues but are still able to look after themselves. (Please note there is limited space for wheelchairs). This tends to run as a smaller group, but still manages to get up to all the things our OPEL groups do!
Traditional day centres run on the following days:

Find out what our clients think about our Day Services!
"We never thought we'd have such a good social life at our age. OPEL made it easier for us to meet new people in our local area".
"I used to live in sheltered accommodation and the area was quite “boring”. OPEL was an opportunity for me to socialise with others instead of being “stuck at home with nothing to do”.
"I moved to the area around five years ago and OPEL allowed me to meet new people, after a while I realised another lady that attended was my neighbour. We've become very friendly and both said that if it wasn’t for OPEL we probably would have never have met!"
"OPEL Northwich is an occasion forme to get a break from my two daughters who are constantly worrying about me; I get to spend time with men for a change."
