Objective

  • To provide information and advice to all adults in Croydon with care and support needs, irrespective of their condition, age or disability

 Main Task

  • Interviewing clients in person or by telephone to ascertain their need for help
    • Identifying and researching information relevant to people’s needs, drawing on resources available
    • Referring to appropriate service providers internally & externally with consent
    • Assisting clients to write letters, make telephone calls and/or complete forms
    • Maintaining statistical and case records using manual and electronic systems
    • Keeping up to date with relevant laws and policies locally and nationally

 Skills required

  • An ability to understand complex information
  • Non judgemental approach
  • Politeness and excellent listening skills
  • I.T. skills (including internet browsing, Microsoft Word for Windows, Excel and Outlook)
  • Good level of literacy and numeracy
    • Willingness to work according to guidelines and standards of practice
    • Willingness to attend initial training, followed by on-going training as required 
    • Experience of Health and Social Care would be desirable but full training is provided

These roles will be discussed at interview, to ensure that we find the best match between a specific role and the applicant’s experience and skill set. Having a variety of roles means that volunteers have the opportunity to develop and diversify if they wish.

Age UK Croydon offers good developmental opportunities for those wishing to enter into a career within the Voluntary Sector. This role provides valuable work experience and will give an insight and understanding of aspects of the social care sector. Volunteering hours are negotiable Monday to Friday. Session times are 9.45am - 1.00pm and/or 2.00pm - 4.15pm. Travel and out of pocket expenses are reimbursed. Commitment required is a minimum of one session per week. Would suit volunteers who wish to commit to at least one term. All appointments will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and a three months trial period.
