Age Cymru West Glamorgan is looking for new Trustees to join our Board and help ensure older people across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend can age well and enjoy life.
Whether you are an experienced professional, bringing lived experience, or considering your first Trustee role, we would love to hear from you.

Why Become a Trustee?
As a Trustee, you will help shape the strategic direction of the charity and influence how we support older people across our communities.
This is an opportunity to:
- Make a genuine difference to older people’s lives
- Use your skills and experience to support a respected local charity
- Develop new leadership and governance experience
- Gain valuable insight into charity strategy and decision-making
- Contribute to work that has a lasting local impact
No previous Trustee or Board experience is required - support and development will be provided.
Who We’re Looking For
In 2026, we are recruiting five new Trustees to strengthen our Board.
We especially welcome applications from people with lived experience, including:
- Older people
- Unpaid carers
- People with experience of supporting older family members or communities
- First-time Trustees
- Younger applicants interested in developing governance experience
You do not need previous Trustee or Board experience to apply. If you are considering your first Trustee role, we will provide support and development to help you succeed.
We are also keen to hear from people with professional experience in areas including:
- Income generation
- Fundraising
- Organisational growth and development
- Business, law, marketing, finance or accountancy
We are committed to building a diverse Board and warmly welcome applications from people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, LGBTQ+ communities, and people from across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend.

What will I do?
As a Trustee, you will:
- Think strategically and creatively to help the charity achieve its vision
- Contribute to important decisions affecting the organisation
- Provide independent judgement and constructive challenge
- Help ensure the charity is well governed and sustainable
- Champion the needs and experiences of older people
Time commitment
We are looking for people who can commit to regular engagement, including:
- Approximately four Board meetings per year via Zoom
- Occasional face-to-face sessions where possible, such as our Annual General Meeting
- Participation in wider organisational activities, such as:
- Team away days
- Key events
- Strategic discussions
What skills and qualities do I need?
You do not need previous Board experience, but successful Trustees will typically:
- Care about improving the lives of older people
- Be empathetic and understanding
- Communicate effectively
- Be willing to ask thoughtful questions and offer constructive challenge
- Be reliable and dependable
- Work well with others
- Be open to learning and training

Please note this is a voluntary position. Age Cymru West Glamorgan will reimburse volunteers for out-of-pocket travel costs including public transport costs.
