About Age Cymru West Glamorgan

Age Cymru West Glamorgan is a local charity that delivers trusted, quality assured and person-centred support that promotes wellbeing and empowers people to age well.

Role Description:   

To act as a member of the Board of Trustees which takes overall responsibility for the strategic direction for the organisation and achieve our vision that everyone in our communities should be able to age well and enjoy life.

In 2026, we're recruiting five new Trustees across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend, with a particular focus on strengthening expertise in income generation, fundraising, and organisational growth across two of the roles. In addition to skilled roles, we also especially welcome applications from people with lived experience, including unpaid carers and older people. We are also keen to encourage younger applicants and those considering their first Trustee role, and will provide appropriate support and development to help them succeed.

Time: Commitment to regular engagement (typically at least four meetings per year) with willingness to attend face-to-face sessions where possible and can support wider organisational activity, such as:

    • Team away days
    • Key events
    • Strategic discussions

Reporting to: Chair of Trustees  

What will I do?

  • Think strategically and creatively to help the Charity achieve its vision.
  • Make sound, independent judgments on key decisions facing the charity.
  • Ask diligent questions and be able to challenge difficult issues.
  • Understand your duties and responsibilities as a Charity Trustee.

What will I gain?

What skills do I need?

  • Have an empathy and understanding of the issues that affect older people.
  • Can communicate effectively
  • Are non-judgmental
  • Are reliable and dependable
  • Are willing to undertake training as necessary
  • Are friendly and enjoy working as part of a team
  • Have professional experience in areas such as business, law, marketing, accountancy etc.

 

Previous board/trustee experience is not necessary. We actively welcome members of the BAME and LGBTQ+ communities and local candidates who want to make a difference to older people.

Please note this is a voluntary position. Age Cymru West Glamorgan will reimburse volunteers for out-of-pocket travel costs including public transport costs.
