Information & Advice Officer – Trainee to Level 4
A banded role with opportunities at different levels
We know that excellent advisers come from different backgrounds and have different levels of experience.
That is why we are recruiting across five appointment bands, from someone looking to begin a career in information and advice through to an experienced adviser able to manage complex enquiries independently.
The advertised salary range represents the following separate bands:
- Trainee Information & Advice Officer: £25,170
- Level 1 Information & Advice Officer: £26,426
- Level 2 Information & Advice Officer: £27,664
- Level 3 Information & Advice Officer: £28,483
- Level 4 Information & Advice Officer: £29,320
All salaries are full-time equivalent and will be paid pro rata where fewer than 35 hours are worked.
The salary range is not a negotiable range for a single role. Appointment will be made at the band that best reflects the successful candidate’s demonstrated knowledge, skills, experience and ability to work independently.
Candidates do not need to decide which appointment band is appropriate before submitting their initial Indeed application. We will consider the appropriate level as part of the recruitment process.

Essential Knowledge and Experience
The successful candidate will need:
- Ability to research information and/or solutions on more complex enquiries.
- Ability to represent the organization at local, regional and national meetings.
- Experience effectively managing a demanding and ever-changing caseload.
- Understanding and commitment to the principles of safeguarding adults.
- Understanding of the needs of clients with disabilities.
- Understanding of the changing needs of older people.
- Understanding of the needs and pressures of unpaid carers.
Desirable Knowledge and Experience
It would be helpful, but not essential, for applicants to have:
- Experience working in an Advice Quality Standard registered service.
- Experience delivering training.
- Experience of working within the Third Sector.
- Level 3 NVQ in Advice and Guidance or similar.
- Experience acting as a principal safeguarding officer / safeguarding lead.
- Experience working with or supervising volunteers.
- Specific/expertise in one of the following areas would be advantageous; Housing; Advocacy; Health and Social Care; Welfare Benefits; Consumer Rights; Human Rights.
Technical Competence
- Experience providing information and advice in a professional environment.
- Confidence using new IT system including cloud-based CRMs.
- Fully IT literate with an interest in using new technology to improve efficiency/performance.
Skills and Abilities
- Highly driven to meet the needs of our clients.
- Very comfortable embracing change.
- Highly organised.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing, along with the ability to adapt communication skills to all levels of staff, volunteers, and clients.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Effective time management skills.
- Ability to operate effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
- Ability to be self-reliant and to portray a professional image always.
- Ability to be flexible.

The ability to speak Welsh is highly desirable.
