Have your say on Devon County Council's Ageing Well in Devon Strategy

Published on 23 February 2023 09:09 PM

Devon County Council has refreshed its Ageing Well Strategy, which focuses on the needs of people in Devon as they get older. It sits alongside their Living Well and Caring Well strategies.

The strategy focuses on enabling people as they get older to live independent, healthy and active lives for as long as possible.  It has been written during a period of unprecedented financial challenge at a national level and, consequently, at a local level as less funding is available. Across Devon, demand from people who are eligible for adult social care continues at a level that exceeds the available budget. This is alongside significant challenges to recruiting and retaining the social care workforce in Devon. Devon County Council needs to work in partnership with people and communities to transform the way that they work over the next five years, alongside planning for and implementing the wide-ranging changes needed to deliver the Government's reform of adult social care.

The strategy is rooted in what people have told the Council is important to them and national good practice, including People at the Heart of Care: adult social care reform white paper - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk), which sets out a 10 year vision to transform support and care in England; to offer people choice and control, and to promote independence and wellbeing in the community through outstanding care.  Delivering the actions within this strategy is a priority for both Devon County Council and One Devon.

Devon County Council are welcoming views on this document which will be taken into account before the Vision and Strategies are finalised later in the year.
