What is Befriending?

Meaningful relationships with others is something that many of us might take for granted, but for some older people, getting out to connect with others can be a challenge.
Many things can force people into isolation, and when that isolation becomes part of normal life it can be hard to break out of it.
That's why we are so excited about our Befriending service. Sometimes all it takes is a regular friendly chat to encourage an isolated, lonely person to seek out new relationships, gain confidence and start to view the world through new eyes.
"Meeting my Josie has made a great difference in my life, I feel far happier and relaxed. She is a very good listener and understands how I feel about my situation” - Carolyn, Befriending client
If you or someone you know might be suffering from isolation, consider contacting our Telephone Befriending service via this referral form.
The service is specifically for residents living in East Sussex aged 55 and over. Once you fill out a referral form on their behalf, we can arrange weekly phone calls with one of our trained volunteers. Our service can last up to 26 weeks and include in-person meet ups where appropriate and available.
