Facilities Assistant: Maintenance, IT & Project Support 

Location: East Sussex (Hybrid, covering properties between Brighton, Hastings, and Battle)

Salary: £14/hr

Hours: 21 hours per week (0.6 FTE) - Permanent Contract. Callouts required.

Are you a multi-skilled individual with strengths in hands-on maintenance, IT support, and project coordination, looking for a hybrid role covering key locations across East Sussex?

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Facilities Assistant to join Age UK East Sussex. This crucial, varied, and technically focused role ensures the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of all our charity properties and assets, directly supporting our services across the county. You will be travelling to various sites, including those situated between Brighton, Hastings, and Battle.

Key Focus Areas of the Role:

  1. Hands-on Maintenance & Compliance (Essential DIY Ability)

You will be a point of contact for practical repairs and maintenance across our premises, proactively managing issues and ensuring statutory compliance.

  • Hands-on Repairs: Conduct essential maintenance tasks, including general repairs, basic plumbing, basic carpentry, decoration work, gardening, and routine tasks such as fitting shelves and changing light bulbs.
  • Safety & Risk Management: Support the Facilities Manager in maintaining statutory compliance (Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Gas/Electrical Safety). This includes following up on all administrative and practical actions resulting from risk assessments and property audits to ensure satisfactory completion. You will also help maintain property audit schedules and Health and Safety Manuals.
  • Emergency Response: Respond appropriately to urgent issues, emergencies, and property-related callouts, including supporting premises CCTV, Burglar, and Fire Alarm systems.
  1. Facilities Project & Contractor Management

You will assist in managing property-related projects and external relationships efficiently and effectively.

  • Project Coordination: Help manage the planned preventative maintenance schedule and support energy efficiency opportunities.
  • Contractor Liaison: Prepare tender documents, source suitable contractors, and supervise work to ensure standards are met on time and budget. Experience managing third parties is essential.
  1. IT & Infrastructure Support

A key part of the role involves providing technical assistance for internal systems.

  • IT: Provide a general working knowledge of IT hardware and applications, including the ability to set up PC workstations, telephone equipment, and software as required.
  • Asset Management: Support the provision of property infrastructure, including utilities and IT.

Essential Requirements:

  • Practical Skills: Sound technical knowledge of small repairs and proven DIY ability.
  • IT Competency: A working knowledge of IT hardware, applications, and uses (including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel).
  • H&S Knowledge: Some understanding of Health & Safety regulations and practice and experience of managing premises in the work environment.
  • Driving Licence: A full UK driving licence and use of a car for work purposes are essential due to extensive county-wide travel.
