We have a volunteer position become available in our highly sought after Information and Advice department. In this role you will be supporting people 50+ with advice on welfare benefits, local services, community groups and signposting.

Volunteer Role: Information and Advice Volunteer

We are looking for a friendly, dynamic and patient person to support our Information and Advice service in Exeter. Supporting people 50+ with a range of topics from welfare benefits to social signposting other the phone, face to face and in peoples homes.

You need to be a clear communicator and enjoy speaking and helping people.

We are looking to expand this service to home visits, and we would welcome a volunteer who would be able to support with home visits as well.

Service:

Information and Advice Service

Location:

Sycamore Centre, Exeter & remote in Exeter

Day & Time:

Friday 10-3, happy to speak about alternative hours

Main Tasks:

·Delivering high quality customer service.

·Assist Information and Advice team by providing information and advice to older people and their families.

·Accurate record keeping using computerised CRM system.

·Support with information and advice on:

·Income and welfare benefits

·Social Care

·Local Services

·Tradespeople

·Community groups and activities (run by Age UK Exeter or other organisations)

·Signposting to other charities and services where needed

What we need from you:

·Ability to treat all people with respect.

·Be a ‘people person’ and have a friendly attitude.

·To be friendly with a sense of humour

·IT literate and ability to learn new systems well.

·Ability to think analytically and problem solve.

·Understand the information needs of older people and the barriers that exist in meeting them.

·Understanding of boundaries between information & advice and advocacy.

·Energy, enthusiasm and an enquiring mind.
