Good Neighbours Service (Hillingdon and Harrow)
A helping hand from someone nearby
If you’re 65 or over and need help with small tasks at home, our Good Neighbours service can match you with a friendly local volunteer.
Whether it’s occasional shopping, IT help, a walk to the post box or someone to accompany you to an appointment - we’re here to support with those ‘little things’ that make a big difference.
This service is available to people aged 65+ living in Hillingdon or Harrow, and is completely free.
What we can help with
Our volunteers can offer support with tasks such as:
● Occasional shopping
● Collecting prescriptions
● IT support and training in the home
● Going for short walks
● Light gardening
● Dog walking
● Posting or collecting letters or parcels
● Short-term telephone support to help reconnect with community services (up to 12 weeks)
All our volunteers are DBS checked. Just tell us what you need and we’ll do our best to help.
How it works
This is an ‘as and when’ service - designed for occasional or one-off support rather than regular visits.
Here’s how it works:
● Call our Community Team and let us know what support you need
● We’ll match you with a volunteer based on your request
● The volunteer will visit or call at a time that works for you
● You can reach out again in future if you need more help
We’ll always try our best to accommodate your request, but support is subject to volunteer availability.
Social Support (Hillingdon only)
If you live in Hillingdon and need more regular contact, we also offer social support from a volunteer - by phone or in person - for up to 6 months.
You may be eligible if you:
● Are 65 or over
● Live alone with no other support
● Are housebound
● Have recently experienced bereavement or a significant health event
