Loneliness and social isolation are talked about extensively in the media along with the effects it can have on your physical and mental health.

Across the region, our staff arrange social activities, events and outings for older people to enjoy. Please browse below for the regular groups in your area, come along and join us.

Catherine House, Evington

Hindu ladies singing group between 2pm – 5pm each Thursday

Lunch clubs run on Monday to Thursday every week offering tasty, Halal and vegetarian Asian meals. For more information call us on 0116 222 0572

Clarence House, City Centre

Weekly Bingo takes place on Friday mornings from 10.3am until midday in the Great Hall

A free Carers Café takes place on Wednesdays and on the 4th Monday of the month from 2-4pm. These are drop-in cafes for informal carers looking after someone with mental health needs

An Ecumenical Service takes place in the Conference Room each Friday at 1pm for ½ hour

Kings Church Group meets on Wednesdays between 10am and midday in the Art Room

On Thursdays a Knit and Natter group meets in the Seasons Restaurant from 10am until midday

Dance Age UK Line Dancing Social on Tuesdays in the Great Hall from 10.30am to midday

A Social group meets to bring local people together and prevent loneliness in over 50’s living in Leicester on Fridays between 10.30am and 12.30pm (contact nikky.miles@ageukleics.org.uk or 0116 2992270 for more information)

Other Leicester Venues

Social groups meet to bring local people together and prevent loneliness in the over 50’s living in Leicester at Evington Park House (LE5 6DE) on Wednesdays from 10.30am-12.30pm and on Thursdays at the Church of the Resurrection, Weymouth Street (LE4 6FN) from 10.30am-12.30pm (£1). Charnwood

Social Drop-in Group

Every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, 10am – midday, at The Community Room Tesco Park Road, Loughborough LE11 1EX . Come and join us for a natter with other local people, a warming cuppa or just a break from the shopping. Information & Advice available if you need it.

North West Leicestershire

Whilst there are no specific social groups running currently in North West Leicestershire, there are several exercise groups including weekly walks and seated exercise which will bring you in contact with other local people with similar interests. Earl Shilton Centre

Coffee mornings take place on Fridays from 9.00am until 11.30am for you to call in for a chat.

Our Friendship Club meets each Wednesday between 2.00pm – 3.15pm. The group has speakers, singers and trips and all are welcome to join.

A daily lunch club gives you the opportunity to chat over a home cooked two course meal for just £4.50 per meal. Please book at reception or call us.

A tea dance runs each Monday afternoon from 1.45pm to 3.45pm.

Gloucester House, Melton Mowbray

Free Coffee shop every Tuesday from 9am to 11.30am.

A Knit & Natter group meets on Wednesdays from 10.30am – 12.00pm.

An Over 55’s drop-in club meets on Fridays from 9.30am to midday.

Our monthly lunch club runs on the 2nd Thursday of the month from 11.30am until 1pm offering a two-course meal with a friendly group for just £5.

Hinckley

Groby Social Group

Every Monday, 10.00am – 12.00 noon, at the Forest Rise Community Centre. For more information please contact our Hinckley Office on 01455 619 519.

Oakham

New Horizons

This friendly group meets on the 2nd Thursday of every month at the Barlow Road Community Room, 2pm– 4pm. The group is open to widows, widowers and any single people over the age of 50 hoping to meet new people and make new friends. The group enjoy a packed programme of events and an annual outing. No booking necessary, the only cost is a £1 contribution towards refreshments – just pop along and meet the group. For more information contact Sue Bethell on 01572 755 309.

Tea Dance

On the 1st Monday of every month, 2:00pm– 4:00pm join us at the Oakham Methodist Church Hall, Northgate. Come along and learn some new dance moves, whether it is sequence dancing, ballroom or jive! Refreshments are provided and members bring a plate of food to share with others half way through. There is also a free raffle and lovely music to listen to, if you do not feel like dancing.
