TfL Trial "Please Offer me a Seat" Badges

Published on 02 September 2016 02:39 PM

Transport for London (TfL) is recruiting 1,000 people to take part in a six-week trial in which disabled passengers and those with hidden conditions, illnesses, and injuries will receive a blue badge to alert fellow passengers of their need for a seat on public transport.

Similar to the popular “Baby on Board” badges, the new “Please Offer me a Seat” badge will be trialled from next month to assess its usefulness for passengers and to gauge the reactions of others. Those trialling the badge will also be given a card that can be shown to TfL staff.

This trial follows TfL research and passenger feedback that found people with hidden disabilities and conditions, or those undergoing treatment, can’t always get a seat when needed – particularly if their need isn’t obvious.

In the lead up to the trial, TfL will utilise social media to encourage Londoners to offer their seat to someone with a badge once the trial officially begins on Monday 12 September. A successful trial period will see the badge made available more widely later in the year.
