About the role
We are recruiting an Information & Advice Adviser to join our accredited Information & Advice Service, which provides high quality advice to older adults in Merton on issues such as welfare benefits, housing, health, community care and local services. Each year the service supports over 1,500 older adults and helps to secure significant amounts of previously unclaimed benefits, enabling people to live more healthily, happily and independently in later life.
In this role, you will explore the needs of older adults and provide clear, person-centred information and advice through centre-based appointments, community clinics, home visits, telephone and email. You will carry out benefit checks, support clients to complete forms and applications (for example Blue Badge and other transport schemes), and provide casework and advocacy where required. You will also keep accurate case records, contribute to outreach and events, and work closely with colleagues and volunteers under our new community support model.
This role would suit an organised, motivated and compassionate person with excellent communication skills, who enjoys problem-solving and wants to make a tangible difference to the lives of older people. Experience in information and advice is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.
