Act Now Age Better: Moving From Reaction into Prevention

Age UK North Tyneside is proud to announce we’re supporting Age UK’s Act Now Age Better 2026 campaign. We’re highlighting some of the great results of investing in our future health and how we can put these things into practice every day. 

We proudly support anyone aged 50+ with all aspects of getting older, from financial to physical support. We’re here every step of the way. Act Now, Age Better aims to get people moving earlier to improve their physical health in preparation for later life. Put simply, some balance exercises today mean a reduced chance of a fall in the future. With this, the follow-on effects are paramount: reduced hospital admissions, relieved pressure on the NHS, staying at home for longer, increased longevity, and more time to focus on the things that matter to us. 

Joy’s Story

We’ve had the honour of delivering hundreds of exercise sessions in North Tyneside across the years, and the feedback only amplifies the benefits of moving our bodies regularly. 

Joy, 72, started coming to our classes years ago after a fall landed her in the hospital. Joy and Dawn have worked together amazingly over the last few years. Joy described “These 

classes have made me so much fitter and I enjoy the social aspect of the class.” Alongside the physical benefits, the classes have improved Joy’s mental health. The Health & Wellness offer has been great for Joy, she now has time to enjoy her own hobbies and interests when she gets time from caring for her brother.

Joy explained, “I can not recommend the service or Dawn the instructor enough, earlier in the year I had a small cancer operation and was off for a few month, and throughout this Dawn kept in contact checking in with me until I returned to classes. Thank you so much for the care and the fun classes. And a big thank you to Dawn, an Amazing instructor.”

Prevention at the core

In line with our values, prevention is also a great part of the new NHS 10 Year Plan. We’re supporting this with our Health & Wellness classes. Each one is designed to support different functions, whether it's core strength and breathwork or a fast-paced cardio workout.
