Story 6 : Christmas Past and Present

Our Sybil Levin Specialist Dementia Day Service is truly a wonderful place to be, the relaxed homely feel is there to put our daily visitors at ease.

The day begins at 10am with a warm welcome and breakfast together which is a time to socialise and chat with others.  Afterwards, everyone decides what they would like to do.  There is a range of choices available which are tailored to individual likes and interests.  A freshly cooked two course lunch provides another opportunity to enjoy social connections. Following lunch everyone will choose what they would like to do for the afternoon.  The day finishes at 3pm when everyone is waved off with a cheery smile.

‘My Mum was so happy after attending the centre. When I spoke to her, I was amazed how much she had enjoyed the first session. She spent a long time on the phone telling me about her day and the people she had met. She was like her old self, and I was so pleased as she had become quite depressed and withdrawn' Relative

SPECAL is an innovative approach using person-centred care in a compassionate, relaxed and stimulating environment. Research identifies that the SPECAL method increases confidence, promotes independence, and reduces the need for medication for people living with dementia.
