Day 11 – Good for the Soul
Volunteers are at the heart of Age UK Nottingham & Nottinghamshire. People of all ages and backgrounds give their time, and without them, we simply couldn’t do the vital work that supports older people across our community.
Your generosity ensures we can continue offering a wide range of services that make a real difference. And sometimes, just one hour of volunteering can transform someone’s day.
Take Jen, who joined our Companion Service in 2023. She visits B, a lady in her 90s who, despite having a loving family, often spent long periods alone after living independently since 2017.
Together, Jen and B share stories, laughter, and memories. Jen listens with joy as B recalls her life, and she also provides reassurance by keeping the Companion Service team updated whenever extra support is needed. The pair have enjoyed outings to places from B’s past, taking in familiar views and reminiscing about treasured moments.
In December 2024, B moved into a care home, but the friendship didn’t end there - Jen continues to visit, bringing companionship and comfort.
This is just one of the many ways your support helps us bring connection, joy, and dignity to older people in Nottinghamshire.
“It’s so good to talk to someone different, it brightens up my day and makes the world of difference to me.”
