12 Stories of Christmas
Day 1 – “I Thought No One Cared”
Social connections are vital for older and vulnerable people - they bring comfort, belonging, and a sense of wellbeing. Throughout the year, we’ve worked hard to create opportunities for people to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and feel part of a community.
As part of our fundraising efforts, we hosted ticketed events where people could enjoy time away from home, share experiences, and learn more about the charity. Behind the scenes, our Advice and First Link teams handled 16,229 phone calls, 5,379 emails, and 400 drop-in appointments, while also sending out 921 fact sheets and guides.
Our Connect and Advice teams helped people access over £4 million in benefits - money that went directly into claimants’ pockets and boosted the local economy. Through our Warm Homes on Prescription service, we secured over £10,000 in local grants to help people upgrade their homes to a decent standard.
We also worked to keep older and vulnerable people safe online through our Scams project and raised awareness of the £32 million in unclaimed Pension Credit within the county. Our intergenerational activities with schools and universities helped younger people understand the challenges older people face - and celebrate them as unique, well-rounded individuals.
Through 12 Stories of Christmas, we’ll share the real impact of our work across the city and county, showing how together we make life better for older and vulnerable people.
