Day 2 – Spreading the Joy!
Our Dear Christmas Friend campaign is a wonderful way to bring festive cheer to people spending Christmas in hospitals or care homes. It’s a simple but powerful reminder that they are valued members of our community - and that we’re thinking of them during this special season.
Getting involved couldn’t be easier: write a letter, draw a picture, or send a card (or all three!) to a Christmas Friend at one of the participating venues. Your small act of kindness can make a big difference.
Last year, the campaign received hundreds of letters and cards - not just from across the UK, but from as far away as France and Sweden. Schools and local communities came together to share messages of hope and joy with people who might otherwise have felt forgotten.
The feedback from care homes and hospitals says it all:
- “It… brought a tear to us all from some simple and selfless acts of kindness from everyone involved.”
- “It made everyone’s day—including the staff! The residents loved all the cards and messages… such an uplifting thing to do.”
- “…some residents have NEVER received any correspondence since living in the care home, so this made their day. Staff loved reading the letters aloud to the residents.”
- “All the residents and staff want to say a big thank you for involving us in the scheme. We’ve had cards and letters full of good wishes, memories, and experiences… at this time when people feel it most.”
So why not add an extra card or two to your Christmas list? Your kindness could make this festive season truly special for someone who needs it most.
