Our standard rate is £35 per hour plus the cost of materials. We offer a reduced rate of £20 per hour plus materials for older people receiving Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, or Carer’s Allowance.

Our handyperson service is designed to help and keep older and vulnerable people living independently and safely at home, by delivering minor adaptations and repairs. We always strive to prioritise safety and security jobs.

Our warm and friendly team of handymen are all police (DBS) checked and carry Age UK Richmond ID at all times.

This is a service for those over 65, unpaid carers and those of any age with long term disabilities. Please note that we solely support people with this service that are living in Richmond upon Thames and paying their Council Tax to Richmond Council. There is no joining fee, we charge a fixed amount per hr plus materials.

What can we help with?

-Measuring up, supplying and fitting of plastic and metal grab rails, internally and externally
-Measuring up, supplying and fitting of wooden bannister rails of all lengths
-Measuring up and supply and fitting of all external types of rails
-Supply and/or fitting key safes - we only stock police approved keysafes
-Minor plumbing including changing washers, taps, identifying and stopping leaks
-Minor electrics: putting in socket points; changing like for like or swapping types of light fittings; changing plugs and fuses
-Changing locks and adapting doors
-Repairing window panes, hinges & handles
-Fixing and provision of all types of toilet seats including raised toilet seats
-Measuring up, supply and fit of drop-down rails, typically adjacent to toilets for additional support
- Minor carpentry jobs including internal cupboard doors and drawers and external gates and latches
-Fitting spy holes/door chains
-Putting up shelves
-Measuring up for blinds and, where required, cutting to size before fitting. Please note that we do not order blinds for you but will advise on products and where to buy.
-Fixing curtain rails and poles and measuring up for new items. Please note that we do not order these for you but will advise on products and where to buy
-Hanging pictures, mirrors and other items
-Assembling flat pack furniture
-Changing lightbulbs


Our handyperson carries Age UK Richmond ID and will have all the necessary tools to complete the job.

How much will it cost?

This is a low cost service for those over 65, unpaid carers and those with long term disabilities.

We charge £35 an hour plus materials, or £20 an hour plus materials for older people in receipt of Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or Carer's Allowance. We also offer a reduced rate for the supply and fit of keysafes for those who qualify for these same 3 benefits.

We reserve the right to check your eligibility for the reduced rates at our own discretion.

We can accept payment by card, cash or cheque.

Cancellation fee
If you wish to cancel a visit, please contact us as soon as possible. A cancellation fee of £17.50 will be charged for any visit cancelled within 24 hours without a valid reason.
