Help shape the future of our work

We are seeking new trustees to strengthen our Board and help shape the future of our work. We are also seeking a new Chair of our Board of Trustees.

If you’re passionate about supporting everyone to make the most of their later life, and you have the skills and experience to help shape and guide our organisation to achieve our vision, we’d like to hear from you.

Like any volunteer involved in our work, our aim is for you to enjoy what you do with us, know how you contribute towards our work and see the positive impact that you have on people’s lives in Stockport.

We are looking for dedicated, creative people, of all ages, with a range of professional and life experience, who will take on the responsibilities of being a trustee or Chair. Bring a trustee is a voluntary role; it is not a paid position. Trustees are selected on the basis of their skills and experience, plus their knowledge of the local communities of Stockport.

The time commitment for being a trustee is approximately 6-10 hours a month and for our Chair, about 16 hours a month.

Board of Trustees

The overall responsibility for the governance, finances and direction of Age UK Stockport lies with the Board of Trustees. Along with this responsibility goes the pleasure and satisfaction of direct involvement in a large local charity.

We are looking for committed individuals, who can share their time, experience and skills to make a difference to the lives of local older people as set out in our vision, mission and values.

Composition of the Board

The Board is made up of up to six elected members plus a Chairperson.

Membership of the Board

Membership of the Board is a non-paid position. Board members will be asked to demonstrate an understanding of and empathy with the aims and objectives of Age UK Stockport. People are selected as members on the basis of the skills and experience they can bring to the organisation, and their knowledge of the local community of Stockport.

Election to the Board

Board members are elected at the Age UK Stockport Annual General Meeting, usually held in November of each year.

Responsibilities of the Board

Age UK Stockport is a registered Charity and the Board form the body of Charity Trustees as defined by the Charities Act 1993. The Board therefore have overall legal responsibility for the organisation. Age UK Stockport is also a company limited by guarantee and is governed by company law.

Meetings of the Board

The Board of Trustees meets throughout the year in addition to the Annual General Meeting. Sub-committees of the Board also meet throughout the year.
