In her presentation to an audience including service users, partners and other stakeholders, Nicola spoke about the charity’s commitment to make Sutton a more age-friendly place.

“Work is well underway on our new strategy which is shaping up to include a focus on services and influencing to improve Sutton for older people, a strong desire to work in partnership so we can reach more individuals, and a commitment to keep older people at the centre of everything we do and to be driven by older people’s views and guidance.”

Age UK Sutton was delighted to welcome Councillor Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council as the guest speaker at the event, where she announced that Sutton Council had invited the charity to be the lead partner in delivering the older people’s strand of the Sutton Plan.

Councillor Dombey commented:

“People are living longer and the support they need is becoming more complex. We want to develop this part of the Sutton Plan more fully, to ensure that all older people's needs are met, their ideas are listened to and their voices are heard.”

Nicola Upton, CEO of Age UK Sutton said:

“We are pleased to be asked to take on this lead role in the Sutton Plan. As the only charity in Sutton offering such a broad range of services for older people, we want to use this opportunity to bring together our dynamic community, including organisations, professionals and individuals and use our collective voice to make Sutton a great place to grow older.”

Age UK Sutton will launch its new strategy in Spring 2018, and will also be working closely with Sutton Council, partners and older people to develop priorities for improving later life in Sutton.
