Oh, What a Night!

Published on 12 March 2018 03:45 PM

It was a fun-filled and slightly raucous night at the Slug and Lettuce Sutton on Tuesday 6 March, as sixteen teams gathered to pit their wits against each other in a Pub Quiz to raise funds for local charity Age UK Sutton.

The event saw teams from local organisations ranging from banks to housing and voluntary groups, competing to win the ‘Age UK Sutton Pub Quiz Masters’ trophy, gifted to the charity by Timpsons. The quiz, donated by Geeks Who Drink – a U.S. based pub quiz company - included rounds like “She’s a Brick House” where teams had to guess the artist from an album cover rendered in Lego!

A sudden-death tie-breaker saw Sutton College’s “Let’s Get Quizzical” secure third place from Santander Sutton’s “We’ve got Dave”. DVV Media’s “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” came second, with Sutton Housing Partnership’s “The Dark Side” securing the trophy, and the first prize donated by Craggy Island Bouldering Centre in Sutton.

Nicola Upton, CEO of Age UK Sutton was Quizmaster for the night, and thanked the Slug & Lettuce Sutton, Geeks Who Drink, Craggy Island and Timpsons for their generous contributions to making the fundraiser a success.

Addressing assembled guests, she spoke about the impact of the charity and its need for funds to continue delivering vital services:

“Last year, our free Information & Advice service helped older people in Sutton gain over £1.4 million in financial support and savings. It costs just a fraction of that to run this essential service, which can profoundly change people’s lives.

Thank you for being here today, and helping us make Sutton a better place to grow older. There are many different way you can continue to support us, whether by organising your own fundraising event at work, making a donation, referring an older person or inviting Age UK Sutton in to talk to your staff.

Your support means a lot to us, and I hope we can continue working together as individuals, organisations and a community to make Sutton a more age-friendly place.”

Altogether, almost £1000 was raised on the night.
