Commemorating the King's Coronation at the Gwynneth Morgan Day Centre

Published on 31 May 2023 10:36 AM

Age UK Wandsworth kicked off May with a variety of activities to celebrate the Coronation. Thanks to the Wandsworth Council Coronation Grant, we were able to offer our day centre service users and community event attendees some extra treats to celebrate the new King. The day centre was decorated with Union Jacks, bunting, and balloons to help get people excited about the weekend’s activities.

Clients were sent home with picnic parcels to enjoy at home over the long weekend. The parcels included a commemorative badge and mug with the Coronation logo, as well as scones and jam, cheese and biscuits, and lots of cakes.

At the day centre, our service users and coffee morning attendees were able to have their photo taken with a life-size cut out of King Charles, Queen Camilla and a corgi! We offered more prizes for our weekly bingo game, as well as a daily raffle for a special tea and biscuits hamper. The service users partook in royal-themed activities throughout the week, like skittles, kings and queens trivia game, and a mini-golf course complete with our own Buckingham Palace.

We were also able to purchase a special King Charles Coronation Rose bush with a commemorative sign to mark the occasion for future visitors.

Thanks to our fabulous day centre staff for making the week such a success and for the generosity of the Council to support our clients.
