Volunteer roles with Age UK Birmingham and Age UK Sandwell

Activity Group Leader (in person)
Be responsible for facilitating weekly activity groups for older people, be they walks, gardening, coffee mornings, friendship groups or other activities.

Energy Efficiency Volunteer
Support the Warm Homes Programme, a seasonal project, part our Independence at Home Support, to help older people get their energy bills as low as possible.

Home Falls Prevention Volunteer
Visit clients to advise on minimising falls within their home, and maybe arrange certain aids. This will also help with their mobility, confidence and improve their wellbeing.

Information & Advice Volunteer (Reception/Admin)
Be the welcoming voice or face of the charity as you take telephone calls or welcome people from the reception of one of our locations.

Memory Care Activities Volunteer
Support older people at our centres, providing companionship and mental stimulation, working with individuals to maintain their levels of mobility and independence

Memory Care Driver Volunteer
Collect older people within a geographical area and deliver clients into the day centre and return them home in the afternoon and provide general support to our day centre staff.

Information Champion Volunteers Needed
In this volunteer role you will help to distribute useful information to older people in the community, either by distributing printed materials or face to face.

Information and Advice Form Filing Volunteer
Help older people to complete welfare benefit applications and other types of documentation in a vital support role to those who struggle with filing out forms both on paper and online.

Later Life Planning Volunteer
Support older people either face to face or over the telephone, by collating information needed by the Later Life Planning team to prepare wills, Lasting Power of Attorney agreements and Living Wills.

Retail (Shop) Volunteer
Help shoppers as well as processing donations for us to sell. Some volunteers may also process sales through the till, and signpost to our other services in Birmingham and Sandwell.

Who can volunteer?
We accept applications from volunteers 18 years and older. Some volunteer roles require specific skills or other criteria to be able to do the role e.g. be able to drive, be willing to undertake a DBS check. The volunteer role descriptions below will outline any requirements.

How much time do I need to give?
The timing of the work is a matter to be negotiated between you and your client for your mutual convenience. Some services allow you to dip in and out, others require a regular commitment. We hope there will be something to suit everyone's availability.

Fundraise for us
Could you help us to raise vital funds? Running a fundraising event or even just having a collection pot at a community hall or event can help us help older people across Birmingham through our services.

Could you talk to your colleagues or your employer about how you can support us? We have lots of ideas for how organisations can get involved, including sponsoring an event, making us Charity of the Year, or donating equipment.
