Making Rural Kirklees more Dementia Friendly

Free Event on Friday 28th September

Dementia is a condition that can affect us all, whether as a patient, family member or friend.

Kirklees Dementia Hub and Age UK C&K are trying to make the Kirklees more ‘dementia friendly’ by Kirklees dementia hub logoeducating people about the disease and how, with a little understanding, we can help people to live well with dementia.

All the events at the awareness day are completely free and for anyone to attend – you do not have to be in the medical / caring profession or linked with someone who is living with dementia.

Dementia Conference

Kirklees Mayor opening conferenceThe Conference is being held at All Hallows Church, Shelley Lane, Kirkburton HD8 0SJ between 12 – 3pm.

There are expert speakers from the medical professions, support organisations and people who have 'lived experience' of caring for loved ones with dementia.

Dementia Friends sessions

The event will be running 4 Dementia Friends sessions throughout the day at the Kirkburton Hub meeting room, designed to give people more understanding of dementia and to encourage positive action to help people live well with dementia.

Dementia Services Marketplace

There will be information stalls and friendly staff on hand to talk about the services and support available to people living with dementia and their carers. Organisations represented include Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees, Alzheimer's Society, SWYPT Memory Clinics, Admiral Nurses, Kirklees Assistive Technology, RVS Community Connections, Carers Count and Medequip.

Admiral Nurses

The Admiral Nurses will be based at the Kirkburton Health Centre, Shelley Lane HD8 0SJ between 11am- 2pm. Drop in and learn about the 'dementia pathways' used by the health services in Kirklees or have a confidential chat with one of the nurses for yourself, a friend or loved one.

Dementia 'Pop-up' Universities

Displays, demonstrations and talks at Kirkburton Library, 57 North Road HD8 0RT between 10am - 3pm from:

  • The Safer Project (doorstep crime for peopel living with dementia)
  • Assistive technologies
  • Kirklees Health Trainers
  • Carers Count and Carers Trust
  • TOVERTAFEL
